Towards a Local-First Desktop

Let’s bring local-first to the Linux and GNOME ecosystem! A free and open-source stack from the kernel up to the app layer, powered by p2panda.

Out of the p2panda and GNOME communities, a collaboration has grown over the past 3 years to explore what a local-first Linux desktop could look like: developer APIs, reusable UI components, system integration and real-world applications like the collaborative editor Reflection.

We’ll talk about our new Modal collective and our adventures building truly user-empowering peer-to-peer networks and apps, what we describe as the Walkaway Stack.
