Back to Day 2
JMAP, because IMAP was terrible (but also good, actually)
Jul 13 10:00 - 10:30
“It’s a new way of communicating, and it’s going to kill email!”
I’ve heard it before. You’ve heard it before. It hasn’t really happened. And to the extent it has happened, I’ll say it’s generally been for the worst. The death of email is built of smoke, mirrors, and walled gardens.
It’s easy to see why you’d want it to die, though. It’s made of ick, and you’ve got to learn too many protocols from the 80s to get anything done. Honestly, though, if you can get past the stink, email has long been a local-first system.
JMAP is the stink-free, local-first email system — and it’s not just for email, either!
